Memorable Meals: Park Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee & Closing Out Our Trip

I’ve been posting a lot about our recent road trip to Kentucky and Tennessee and it culminates today with a post about the final night on our trip. We succeeded in our goal of bonding and finding our heritage but I know I speak for our group when I say that one of the most unexpected highlights were the friends we made along the way. This post should really be called Just One of Those Nights.  It was so much more than just the meal.  Let me set up the precursor to the meal.  Let’s call it the appetizer. The “appetizer” started two days prior when encountered three of the most fun people at our bed and breakfast in Louisville, Kentucky.  We met Derek, Lynn, and Kevin during our first night in Louisville and enjoyed breakfast with them the next morning.  Needless to say breakfast went on for two hours due to all the talking and laughing.  When we told the boys our next stop was Nashville, Derek and Lynn announced they were from Nashville …

Memorable Meals: A Night with Nigella

Once upon a time a British domestic goddess visited Milwaukee. And made me a babbling fool. It’s no secret Nigella Lawson is my idol.  Not just for her recipes, but her approach to food, her lifestyle, her warm, British accent, and her mannerisms.  I know it sounds silly but the way she talks with her hands mesmerizes me. I’ve been following her for YEARS so imagine my awestrucked surprise when I read she was coming to Milwaukee, WI…land of beer and brats. My husband graciously bought me a ticket to attend her event which celebrated the release of her new cookbook, Nigellissima.  Local chefs prepared recipes from her book and Nigella mingled about the room and chatted with all of the attendees.  My mom and sister joined me as well and got pure enjoyment out of seeing me star-struck for the better part of two hours. When Nigella made her way to our table, I was SO nervous!  I didn’t want to be that cliché person who says, “Oh, I’m your BIGGEST fan!” but couldn’t …

Memorable Meals: La Condesa

Sometimes you have a meal and it’s soooo good you can’t stop talking about it, you want to ask for the recipes, and you don’t want to ever get up and leave the table because deliciousness keeps coming out of the kitchen door.  This can equally happen at someone’s home or at a restaurant, by the way. I affectionately call these “just one of those meals.”  People seem to just get it when you attach that phrase to a great dining experience. The experience I’m posting about today was the first meal we had when we landed in Austin, TX to visit family earlier in May.  I’d read about La Condesa in a food magazine and added it to my list of places to hit when we touched down. Needing to kill some time before we met up with family, we headed here for lunch…and almost never left.  I present to you: Pineapple mint agua fresca Guacamole Tasting: traditional, chipotle with slivered marcona almonds, pomegranate with queso fresco, and lump crab with apple and coconut …

Memorable Meals: The Orange in London, England

The crowning food glory of my Olympic trip to London was definitely the meal at The Orange Public House & Hotel.  Located on Pimlico Road, it’s surrounded by art galleries and interior design firms.  Window shopping was never so fun or outrageous! If I ever move to the Belgravia neighborhood in London, (I’m talking hitting the Powerball multiple times) I have a few design firms in mind–not holding my breath though. My parents discovered this restaurant while searching out a place to enjoy an Easter meal.  In fact, while at this restaurant my mom fell in love with their champagne braised rabbit.  The irony isn’t lost on me. After spending the afternoon shopping around Regent Street, including my favorite–the largest Anthropologie store I’ve ever been to, we decided to head there for dinner. *Side note, did you know that one my favorite chefs, Giada De Laurentiis is married to a designer for Anthropologie?  I’m telling you, it’s all connected people!* When I meet with those aforementioned designers to go over my new Belgravia home, I will explicitly share my …
