I must say, I’m loving the simplicity of the black and white layout now so the images pop.  A huge thanks to my guy for not only overhauling this site but for the weeks and weeks of “a woman’s perogative to change her mind” that infiltrated our conversations along the way.  You’re the best.  Mean it.  Love you.

Today feels very much like a juxtaposition.  Now that I’m done touting the simple beauty of black and white, let’s bust into some color!

You know what else packs a punch like color?  The zing and pucker of some citrus juice.

I came up with three blends that have been gracing my little IKEA juice glasses ever since.  Each is sweetened with something different and shaken with something green.

  • Ruby Red Grapefruit with Vanilla Syrup and Mint
  • Cara Cara Orange and Lime with Agave and Thyme
  • Blood Orange with Honey and Rosemary

Muddling the herbs and shaking them with the juices in large mason jars lightly releases some of their oils and infuses their flavor right in with the citrus.

To balance out the acidity and herbs, I added different sweeteners to each jar.

The best way to use these juices?  Mimosas, of course!  Top off the juice with prosecco or champagne or you can keep in non-alcoholic with a bit of club soda or sparkling water.

A mountain of citrus was the perfect time to get out my favorite juicer.  I’d been dreaming about this juicer for months and was over the moon to see one under the Christmas tree a few years ago.  I love it so much, I decided to get one for you!

Mason Jar Juices

About 3 mimosas per flavor, depending on how much you fill each glass

Mason Jar Juices

Ingredients

Ruby Red Grapefruit with Vanilla Syrup and Mint
  • 2 ruby red grapefruits
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla syrup
  • Sprigs of mint
  • Cara Cara Orange with Lime, Agave, and Thyme
  • 3 cara cara oranges
  • 2 limes
  • 1 tbsp. agave nectar
  • Sprigs of thyme
  • Blood Orange with Honey and Rosemary
  • 4 blood oranges
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • Sprigs of rosemary
  • Club soda, prosecco, or champagne

Instructions

  1. Juice the citrus and put juice into a quart mason jar. Add sweetener. Slap the herbs between your hands to lightly bruise the outside and release the essential oils. Drop the sprig into the jar and seal. Shake the jar and chill until ready to serve. Fill glass halfway with juice and top off with soda, prosecco, or champagne.
  2. To Make Vanilla Syrup:
  3. Combine 1/2 c. sugar, 1/2 c. water, and one split vanilla bean into a small pot. Be sure to add the scraped out vanilla bean seeds to the pot too! Bring to a simmer and stir to dissolve the sugar. Let the syrup cool and chill.
