Apple, Honeycomb, & Brie Crostini…and a Giveaway!

The giveaway has ended!  Thanks to all those who entered.  Inger W., you’re the lucky winner!  I will be in touch over email.  Enjoy your Saturday, everyone!

Happy Fall Folks!

I’ve got an appetizer that was a cinch to throw together and will definitely be making the rounds with all of the parties and gatherings coming up this season.

Peanut Butter & Dill Pickles - Apple, Honeycomb, & Brie Crostini & a Giveaway!

If you can assemble a few ingredients and throw them under the broiler until melty and gooey, you can knock this one out of the park.  Just take a baguette, slice it up, and place on a rimmed baking sheet. Top the baguette with a slice of green apple, and a chunk of brie cheese.

Put under the broiler for 5-10 minutes until the cheese has melted and the edges of the crostini are toasted.  Once you pull the tray out of the oven, place a chunk of honeycomb onto each slice and sprinkle with chopped pecans, salt, and pepper.  Here’s a printable!

Apple, Honeycomb, & Brie Crostini

Makes about 20 appetizers, depending on how many baguette slices you have

Ingredients

  • 1 baguette, sliced into small rounds
  • 1 green apple, thinly sliced
  • Wedge of brie cheese
  • Chunk of fresh honeycomb cut into small squares*
  • 2-3 tbsp. chopped pecans
  • Salt & pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your broiler.
  2. Place the baguette slices on a rimmed baking sheet and top with the apple slices and chunks of cheese.
  3. Broil for 5-10 minutes until the brie is melted and gooey and the edges of the baguette slices are toasted.
  4. Remove the tray from the oven and top each slice with a square of honeycomb. Sprinkle with pecans, salt, and pepper.

*If you can't get your hands onto honeycomb, just drizzle the slices with honey when they come out of the oven.

I think what really sends this appetizer out of the park is the fresh chunk of honeycomb I top it with right out of the oven.  If you’ve never had fresh honeycomb, seek it out this weekend and thank me later.  It really is nature’s best candy and there isn’t anything like the taste of local, fresh honey.

To celebrate everything I love about this time of year (colder weather, changing leaves, pumpkins, cider, sweaters, more pumpkins,  football, and apple appetizers with honeycomb…in no particular order) I’m giving away one of my very favorite finds; a burlap basket from Lemon Curd Designs.

I first spotted these baskets at a local farmer’s market and fell in love.  I immediately thought the basket would be great to put a whole baguette or bread slices in but upon closer inspection it can be used for so much more.  The clever gal behind these baskets suggested using them for TV remote wrangling on a coffee table or small kids toys but the possibilities are endless!  I could see this basket filled with potpourri, K-cups or tea bags on the kitchen counter, silverware on a buffet table…I could go on and on.

As if these bags couldn’t get any better, they are locally made from recycled burlap coffee sacks and are completely washable!

Love, love, love the easy recipe. Will be trying it for sure – looks amazing!

  2. I just bought something sort of similar at a craft fair for the purpose of serving bread slices, but I like the look of yours better. Which farmers market did you find it at?

I love the leaves changing colors, especially in the mountains! So pretty!

Ummm everything. Everything is my favorite thing about fall. :)
The slight crisp in the air, the smells, the food (except all the pumpkin everything – that craze is getting a little out of hand, if you ask me), the beautiful colors…all of it! :)

  5. Like the changes to your website–I wish I had more tech support than me! The appetizer looks great; I was just thinking about brie appetizers since I made a lot of chutney. Time to go shopping!
