As you read this, we’ve already embarked on our road trip to find our roots in Kentucky and Tennessee!
Start singing, “On the Road Again!”
If you aren’t already, now would be a good time to follow me on Facebook and Twitter. I promise lots of southern foodie finds and hilarious shenanigans from 3 generations of women in one vehicle for 5 days.
Nothing can get you more excited for a road trip than throwing some goodie bags together for the whole crew.So what does one pack when heading out on a girly road trip to discover her heritage?
I had a ball scouring the internet for Kentucky and Tennessee made items to stuff in road trip bags for all the girls. If you ask me, it’s a good balance of essentials, snacks, and whimsy…
Here’s what I’m giving all the ladies:
Goo Goo Clusters– Made in Nashville, it’s a classic southern treat made of chocolate, marshmallow nougat, pecans, and caramel.
Southern Firefly Candle Company Travel Candles– Hand poured in Brentwood, TN, I of course went with their Kentucky (vanilla bourbon) and Nashville (whisky and leather) scents.
Nola Granola Packs– Handmade in Nashville, I stocked up on the Salted Caramel, Cranberry Coconut, and Apricot Almond flavors.
Thistle Farms Lip Balms– Located in Nashville, Thistle Farms offers residential and entrepreneurial opportunities for women who’ve survived addiction, prostitution, and/or sex trafficking. Even if they weren’t from Tennessee, I’d still want to include their products to support such a great cause.
Olive & Sinclair Chocolate Bars– The buzz about these bars is everywhere! Seems like every magazine I pick up features this fantastic chocolate! Made in Nashville, I purchased their cacao nibs, salt and pepper, coffee, cinnamon chili, and sea salt flavors.
Road Trip Bingo Cards– Ok, technically not made in Kentucky or Tennessee but would road trip would be without it?
Mini Travel Journals from Cracked Designs– Ok I bent the rules again. These journals are actually made right here in Milwaukee but they are so frickin’ cute! The Etsy shop owner customized the covers for us to reflect our road trip route. All in all, one of my favorite bag stuffers.
Dammit Dolls– Let’s break it down…a lot of estrogen, mother/daughter/sister dynamics in one small, confined space for 5 days. Everybody needs a dammit doll. Think of them like a cuter, more feminine stress ball. When somebody wants to ring somebody’s neck, we get caught in traffic, or we just feel like it, expect these dammit dolls to take a beating. Plus nothing will really stress us out because we’ll still be laughing over our gaggle of dammit dolls.
Mini Moon Pies– Another southern classic treat from Tennessee!
“I just can’t wait to get on the road again…”
