Fish, Chips, and a Check off the Bucket List

Cheer-io! I promised some exciting news on Facebook earlier this week so here it is… Peanut Butter & Dill Pickles is hitting the road (well, actually the skies) and heading to… London, England for the 2012 Summer Olympics! I can’t describe how beyond excited I am! This trip has been in the works for some time and it still doesn’t feel real. Ever since I was a lil’ smack I’ve loved the Olympics. Chills for every Opening Ceremony. Watching Kerri Strug stick her vault landing on one foot and the Magnificent Seven taking home the gold. Seeing Michael Phelps shatter the medal record in Beijing. I smile just thinking about it. There really is something about the excitement that builds every two years while the whole world looks to a new city and the next round of athletes. Just being in the presence of an Olympic event has been at the top of my bucket list since I knew what a bucket list was. I dreamed of being Shannon Miller and nailing flips and twists on the floor …

Bats Aren’t Kangaroos and Austin Isn’t in Australia {Austin Trip Part 2}

So I knocked out the food on our trip in the last post so here are some other fun things we did while in Austin.3 Important Takeaways from this Post:1. Bats are not kangaroos…but they can be just as cool.Leading up to our trip, Mike’s sister had been emailing us loads of fun stuff to do during our visit.  In one email, I noticed “Bat Cruise” and ruled it out.  I had envisioned swarms of bats flying every which way and decided that was not for me.   Lady Bird Lake at Sunset I could tell I was being labeled the “party pooper” but the subject was dropped.  Closer to our trip, I noticed that everyone kept referring to “going and seeing the kangaroos” quite a bit.  Now, I don’t know about you but I can be a pretty gullible person however, I do know that Austin isn’t in Australia and I’ve never heard of an abundance of hopping marsupials in the Lone Star state.  Even with my gullibility, I quickly caught on that kangaroos = bats when speaking with …

Salt Lick

Big Donuts, Burgers, & Brisket {Austin, Texas Trip Part 1}

Mike and I just got back from an amazing trip to visit family in Austin, Texas. And when I say amazing, I mean A-MAZ-ING. Temps were in the upper 90’s the whole trip but that was a great excuse for sweet tea, lemonade, and shakes all day. It was good practice for if we’re ever lucky to move back to Texas one day. Let’s start with the food. We had so much delicious grub I’m surprised no one had to roll Mike and I down the terminal to the airplane. {The Food} Our first major food stop was to Round Rock Donuts. Fantastic donuts the size of your head or your niece! I’m proud to say he almost made it through the whole thing but in the battle of Man v. Food, food won. Austin is full of fun food trucks and trailers. The Mighty Cone had delicious fried pickles and chocolate shakes.  In fact, when we ordered, the woman looked up at us just to confirm we wanted “pickles and chocolate”.  The answer was yes. The …

Ice Cream Marathon Finale//Peanut Butter & Dill Pickles Blog

Ice Cream Finale…Finally!

Hello!  I’m back. I had brain freeze…aka 30 days of straight ice cream blogging and I needed a break. The best cure for a brain freeze… A trip to Austin, Texas.  It’s hot down here! But back up to Wisconsin and the finale ice cream party last weekend. I apparently thought it was a good idea to stuff people full of food before trying to eliminate 30 quarts of ice cream from my deep freeze. It went over very well.             In case you’re wondering where the photos of the ice cream are…there aren’t any. Seriously. I got so wrapped up in the party and scooping 30 flavors I totally, 100% forgot to take any. I assure you a lot of it was consumed and we had a house full of people. Because I feel like an idiot for not taking any photos after the banner above, I made my husband hold an ice cream scoop this morning in Austin. Just to have one last ice cream photo. He’s a …
